In this final key of the Resilience framework, Roland St. Gerard explores the power of support systems and why no one grows, heals, or thrives alone. Drawing from Haitian cultural wisdom, the life of Jesus, and the biblical friendship of David and Jonathan, Roland shows how community is not a luxury — it is a spiritual strategy.

This episode unpacks the difference between dependency and alignment, the importance of having “your inner three,” and the role of mentors, truth‑tellers, and prayer partners in emotional and spiritual resilience. Roland also offers a heartfelt word of encouragement to pastors and ministry leaders who carry the weight of others while often neglecting their own need for support.

If you’ve been trying to do life alone, feeling isolated, or longing for deeper connection, this episode will remind you that God designed you for community — and that the right people can strengthen your purpose, protect your peace, and walk with you through every season.

AAA RESILIENCE PODCAST — EPISODE 12

Support Systems — You Don’t Grow Alone

Christ‑Centered • Haitian‑Rooted • Community‑Strengthened

OPENING — “There are moments…”

There are moments when life reminds you that strength alone is not enough — moments when your own courage feels thin, your own wisdom feels limited, your own energy feels drained. Moments when you realize:

You were never meant to carry life by yourself.

There are moments when God whispers through exhaustion, “You need people.”

And if you’re Haitian, you know this truth in your bones. We are a people who survive through community — through shared meals, shared burdens, shared prayers, shared laughter, shared struggle. We say, “Men anpil, chay pa lou.” Many hands make the load light.

Support systems are not optional. They are spiritual strategy.

INTRO — “Hey family…”

Hey family, welcome back to the AAA Resilience Podcast. I’m your host, Roland St. Gerard, and today we’re stepping into Key 7: Support Systems, the final key from my book Resilience: 7 Keys to Cultivate a Resilient Mindset for Spiritual Mastery.

Support systems are not a sign of weakness. They are a sign of wisdom.

Let’s talk about how God uses people, community, and connection to strengthen your resilience and shape your destiny.

SECTION 1 — What Support Systems Really Are

Support systems are not:

  • people who fix your problems
  • people who agree with everything you say
  • people who rescue you
  • people who replace God

Support systems are:

  • people who walk with you
  • people who speak truth to you
  • people who pray for you
  • people who strengthen you
  • people who remind you who you are in Christ

Support systems are not about dependency — they’re about alignment.

SECTION 2 — Christ’s Model: Even Jesus Didn’t Walk Alone

Jesus — the Son of God — built a support system.

He had:

  • the three (Peter, James, John)
  • the twelve
  • the seventy
  • the women who supported His ministry
  • the home of Mary, Martha, and Lazarus

Even Jesus — perfect, powerful, divine — chose community.

Ecclesiastes 4:9–10 says: “Two are better than one… If either of them falls, one can help the other up.”

Isolation is not spiritual maturity. Isolation is spiritual vulnerability.

SECTION 3 — A Haitian Cultural Anchor

In Haiti, community is not a luxury — it’s survival.

  • When someone is sick, the neighborhood shows up.
  • When someone dies, the community gathers.
  • When someone is struggling, people bring food.
  • When someone is discouraged, someone prays.

Haitians understand that strength is shared.

Support systems are not about having many people — they’re about having the right people.

SECTION 4 — Why Support Systems Matter

Support systems matter because:

  • you need people who see what you can’t
  • you need people who pray when you’re tired
  • you need people who speak truth when you’re confused
  • you need people who hold you accountable
  • you need people who remind you of God’s promises

Support systems protect your purpose.

SECTION 5 — A Christian Historical Illustration

One of the most powerful examples of support systems is found in the life of Jonathan and David.

David was anointed king — but hunted, misunderstood, and betrayed. Jonathan, the son of the current king, became his support system.

1 Samuel 23:16 says: “Jonathan went to David and strengthened his hand in God.”

Jonathan didn’t fix David’s situation. He strengthened David’s spirit.

That’s what real support systems do.

SECTION 6 — Special Encouragement to Pastors & Ministry Leaders

To every pastor, ministry leader, chaplain, worship leader, and servant of God:

You pour into others constantly. You carry burdens that no one sees. You hold space for people’s pain. You show up even when you’re tired.

But hear this:

You need support too. You deserve support too. You are allowed to receive what you give.

Ministry is not meant to be done alone. Jesus didn’t do it alone. Paul didn’t do it alone. Moses didn’t do it alone.

Your support system is not a luxury — it is a lifeline.

SECTION 7 — How to Build Christ‑Centered Support Systems

1. Identify your “inner three.”

People who know your heart, not your title.

2. Build relationships that are mutual, not one‑sided.

Support is shared.

3. Seek spiritual covering.

A pastor, mentor, or elder who prays for you.

4. Cultivate friendships that speak truth.

Not flattery — truth.

5. Stay connected to community.

Isolation is where the enemy whispers.

Support systems don’t happen accidentally — they are built intentionally.

ACTIVATION MOMENT

Take a breath. Let your heart settle.

Ask yourself:

  1. Who strengthens me spiritually?
  2. Who speaks truth to me?
  3. Who prays for me?
  4. Who do I need to reconnect with?
  5. Who is missing from my support system?

Choose one relationship to strengthen this week.

TRANSITION TO BENEDICTION

Before we close, I want to speak blessing over your relationships — that God would surround you with the right people for the right season.

CLOSING BENEDICTION

May God send people who strengthen your spirit. May He surround you with voices that speak life. May He protect you from isolation and guide you into community. May He give you friends who walk with you, leaders who cover you, and companions who remind you of His promises. And may the resilience of Haiti and the love of Jesus anchor you in relationships that help you grow.
