In Episode 2 of the AAA Resilience Podcast: Awaken • Aligned • Activated, Dr. Roland St. Gerard continues the Chased by Grace series by exploring one of life's most profound realities:

Broken beginnings do not prevent God from writing a beautiful ending.

In this Christ-centered episode, you'll discover how God's grace meets us in our deepest pain and how Christ can turn broken pieces into a powerful testimony of hope.

In This Episode, You'll Discover:

AWAKEN – Learn to see your broken story through the eyes of God's redeeming grace.

ALIGNED – Replace the lies of your past with the truth of your identity in Christ.

Season 3: Chased by Grace

Pursued by a Savior Who Would Not Quit

Episode 2

When Life Begins with Broken Pieces

How Christ Restores What Life Has Broken

HOST INTRO

Hello family, and welcome back to the AAA Resilience Podcast—where we journey together to:

Awaken to who we are in Christ,
Become Aligned with God’s Word, will, and purpose,
and Live Activated by the power of the Holy Spirit.

I am your host, Dr. Roland F. St. Gerard, and I am grateful to have you join me for another episode of Season Three: Chased by Grace—Pursued by a Savior Who Would Not Quit.

This season is based on my book Chased by Grace, a testimony of the relentless love of Jesus Christ—the Savior who finds us, heals us, restores us, and transforms our stories for His glory.

In our first episode, we talked about “The Story Behind the Story.” We discovered that our journey does not begin with us chasing God.

It begins with God chasing us.

Jesus said in:

Luke 19:10
“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

Before we recognized Him…

He recognized us.

Before we reached for Him…

He reached toward us.

Before we knew the way…

Grace was already making a way.

Today, we continue the journey with a subject that touches every human heart:

When Life Begins with Broken Pieces

Because the truth is:

Not everyone begins life with perfect circumstances.

Not every childhood is filled with security.

Not every family story is simple.

Not every chapter begins with joy.

But the good news of Jesus Christ is this:

A broken beginning does not prevent a blessed ending when the pieces are placed in the hands of the Savior.

OPENING REFLECTION

What Do You Do With Broken Pieces?

Every person carries pieces.

Pieces of memories.

Pieces of experiences.

Pieces of dreams.

Pieces of relationships.

Some pieces bring joy.

Others bring questions.

Some pieces remind us of victories.

Others remind us of wounds.

And if we are honest, many of us spend years trying to hide the broken pieces.

We cover them.

We ignore them.

We pretend they are not there.

We tell ourselves:

"I should be over this by now."

"It happened a long time ago."

"It does not affect me anymore."

But Jesus does not heal what we pretend is not broken.

Grace begins where honesty begins.

The Bible tells us in:

Psalm 147:3
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

Notice what Scripture does not say.

It does not say God rejects the brokenhearted.

It does not say God avoids wounded people.

It says He heals them.

Jesus moves toward brokenness.

SEGMENT ONE

Broken Does Not Mean Abandoned

One of the greatest lies pain tells us is:

"If God loved me, this would not have happened."

Many people confuse the presence of pain with the absence of God.

But throughout Scripture, we discover that some of the people closest to God walked through painful chapters.

Joseph was rejected before he was elevated.

Moses experienced isolation before leadership.

David faced battles before the throne.

Peter experienced failure before restoration.

Even Jesus Himself experienced suffering before resurrection.

The presence of difficulty does not mean the absence of God.

Sometimes the deepest work of grace happens in the hardest chapters of life.

MY CHASED BY GRACE REFLECTION

Seeing My Own Broken Pieces Differently

When I look back at my own story—the early chapters of my life in Haiti, the separation, the searching, the confusion, and the moments where I did not understand why certain things happened—I now see something differently.

At the time, I saw only survival.

But today, I see grace.

I see that Jesus was present even in places where I did not recognize Him.

He was protecting.

He was preserving.

He was preparing.

The younger version of me could only see what was missing.

But grace helped me recognize Who was present.

Sometimes we focus so much on what we lost that we overlook the One who kept us.

Take for instance, AAA PRINCIPLE #1: AWAKEN

Christ Awakens Us to See Our Story Differently

Awakening begins when Jesus changes our perspective.

Without grace, we ask:

"Why did this happen to me?"

But through grace, we begin asking:

"Lord, how can You redeem this?"

The Apostle Paul reminds us:

Romans 8:28
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”

This does not mean everything that happens is good.

It means God is powerful enough to work good through everything.

The wound is not greater than the Healer.

The brokenness is not greater than the Restorer.

SEGMENT TWO

God Uses Broken People

One of the beautiful truths of Scripture is that God rarely chooses people with perfect stories.

He chooses people who are willing to surrender their stories.

Look at the people Jesus called:

Ordinary fishermen.

People with questions.

People with failures.

People overlooked by society.

Why?

Because grace is not attracted to perfection.

Grace is attracted to surrender.

As Jesus said:

Mark 2:17
“It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

Jesus did not come because humanity had everything together.

He came because we needed a Savior.

AAA PRINCIPLE #2: ALIGNED

Allow Christ to Redefine Your Broken Places

Alignment happens when we stop allowing our wounds to define us and allow Christ to speak truth over us.

The world may label you by:

Your mistakes.

Your family history.

Your failures.

Your struggles.

Your past.

But Jesus gives you a new identity.

Scripture says:

2 Corinthians 5:17

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

You are not just a collection of what happened to you.

You are a creation of the God who loves you.

SEGMENT THREE

Broken Pieces Become Testimonies

Have you ever seen a beautiful stained-glass window?

It is made of broken pieces.

Different shapes.

Different colors.

Different sizes.

But when the artist puts them together and light shines through, the broken pieces become something beautiful.

That is what Christ does.

He takes pieces we thought were useless and allows His light to shine through them.

Your pain can become compassion toward others.

Your struggles can become wisdom for others.

Your healing can become hope for someone else.

In 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, the apostle Paul declares, “All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. 4 He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.”

AAA PRINCIPLE #3: ACTIVATED

Grace Turns Healing Into Purpose

God does not only heal you for you.

He restores you so your life can reflect His goodness.

Again, Paul writes in: 2 Corinthians 1:4 “God comforts us so we can comfort others with the comfort we have received.”

The grace that comes to you is meant to flow through you and to others.

Here are some REFLECTION QUESTIONS to Ponder On this WEEK.

Take some time this week and ask:

An Awaken Question: What broken piece of my story do I need to bring honestly before Jesus?

Ask the Aligned question: What false belief from my past needs to be replaced with God’s truth?

And Your Activated Question: How can God use what I have experienced to encourage someone else?

You can began by Repeating this DECLARATION OF GRACE

Let Us Repeat this Declaration of Grace:

My brokenness is not bigger than my Savior.

Jesus knows every chapter of my story.

My wounds can become places of healing.

My pain can become purpose.

My past does not define me.

Christ restores me.

Grace is still working in me.

I am awakened.

I am aligned.

I am activated.

I am still being chased by grace.

LET US PRAY!

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for meeting us in the broken places.

Thank You that we do not have to hide our wounds from You.

You know every disappointment, every loss, every tear, and every question.

Today, we surrender our broken pieces into Your hands.

Heal what needs healing. / Restore what needs restoration.

Redeem what we thought was wasted. / Awaken us to our identity in Christ.

Align our hearts with Your truth.

Activate us to use our stories for Your glory.

May our lives become testimonies of Your amazing grace.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.
